I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date! No time to say hello goodbye, I’m late, I’m late, I’m late!
– The White Rabbit, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland (1951)
There was nothing so very remarkable in that; nor did Alice think it so very much out of the ordinary to hear the Rabbit say to itself ‘Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!’ …but when the Rabbit actually took a watch out its waistcoat pocket, and looked at it, and then hurried on, Alice startled to her feet.

AAAAggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!! (That was a literary intepretation of the primal scream currently occupying my inner monologue with ever-increasing chances of becoming part of my external monologue.
I’m stressed. I mean, happy way kind of stressed, but still stressed…At the present time I’m plotting and planning a move to Los Angeles, trying to get rid of stuff on eBay, looking for jobs, doing my own work, upgrading my software skills across a number of packages from Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (lots of really cool new features), Nuke, Avid Media Composer, Final Cut X, Speedgrade, DaVinci Resolve, etc.), trying to get an editing and compositing reel online, post a zillion pictures from Comic-Con, keep up my cycling and yoga regimen (the yoga is losing…) and, and …Oh, yeah that…Keep up with my blogging.
Okay, so it’s good, productive, stress, but still… I been feeling a bit like the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland (The Disney version…) running around in a state of semi-frenzy trying to do a zillion things at once, and all under a somewhat unrealistic/optimistic timeframe for getting my butt relocated to L.A. by the middle/end of September, before the early frost and snow sets in for the Wint…Oh, yeah, forget that. But at some point the daytime temps will be in the ’60s in the Valley, and I want to be hunkered down and braced for that. (And all of my friends and readers outside of California can stop muttering expletives under your breath…Yeah, I know. :p) The truth is I’m getting back up to speed and hitting my stride…Which usually brings with it gale-force winds and woe to anything, or anyone, that doesn’t have the good sense to get out of the way. I’m back in action, and ready to kick life’s ass.
So you’re saying, “So, Doug, if you’re so all-fired busy, why the hell are you taking time to write a seemingly meaningless blog with references to a children’s book and a sixties TV adaption of same?”
It’s just how I roll, people. And it all started with this cosplay photo from Comic-Con:
Working on this photo reminded me of ‘Alice in Wonderland‘, which reminded me of the the White Rabbit, and I started thinking about how I’ve been chasing my tail all week over my desire to get everything done yesterday, which was impossible because yesterday, well, that was another story, but that brought to mind the 1966 Hanna-Barbara adaption of Alice, called ‘The New Alice in Wonderland -or- What’s a Nice Girl Like You Doing in a Place like This?‘, which had me remembering about the title song, sung by Sammy Davis, Jr., as the (undoubtedly pot-smoking [Hey it was the sixties, after all]) Chesire Cat…Which is linked, for your enjoyment, dear reader, at the top of this post.
There. See how my mind works? It’s a very busy, often times circuitous, place…Especially when caffeinated which is pretty much always. But it (mostly) makes sense in the end.
The full version of the show is embedded below, and is really worth watching if you’re an Alice fan. It is very, very ’60s in tone, and features some of the best voice actors of the day.
Now, I’m off to get some life-change work done, and I’M LATE! I’M LATE! I’M LATE! 🙂
