A few months back I was asked to participate as a Judge for the 1st Annual Geekie Awards, an awards program showcasing “the best indie-created, high production value, awe-inspiring geek-genre content, art, products and experiences in the world.”
How could I pass that up?
My category is web video, and as part of the process I got to watch a multitude (I don’t remember the exact count at this point, but it seems like there were about 80 or so entries…It was enough to encompass being a multitude so let’s just go with that) of web video shows spanning all sorts of genres from music videos to animation, and comedy to drama. All of it thoroughly geek-oriented, all of it excellent, and watching and judging of the entries was a huge amount of fun.
It only when judging shows like the Geekie awards, or the IAWTV Awards, that I really get a chance to embrace a large number of widely-divergent web tv shows, as there is just so much content out there and never enough time to see as much of it as one would want. It never fails to amaze me at how much creative, diverse, and passion-driven programming is being produced out there…And it makes me quite proud to be a part of this community.
The 1st Annual Geekie Awards will be happening on Sunday, August 18th, 2013, at the Avalon Hollywood from 5:30 to 11PM, including a live stream of the show. Tickets for the event are available, and you can find more information at http://www.thegeekieawards.com.
Special thanks to Kristen Nedopak, Executive Producer of the Geekie Awards, for inviting me to be part of this event.
